Job Description

Our client, a leading construction, civil engineering and water utilities main contractor, is looking to employ a Senior Planner on a permanent basis to assist the company by:

• Creating accurate programmes and embedding the appropriate programme behaviours will contribute significantly to success in other areas, including cost and quality.
• Create, maintain, review and administer multiple integrated design and construct manufacturing programmes for projects delivered under the client’s framework.
• Work closely with and guide project teams and suppliers to ensure all activities, logic, risks, internal and external constraints etc are identified when creating programmes.
• Provide accurate and consistent progress information to the company and client.
• Analyse programmes to proactively identify time risks and opportunities.
• Ensure a consistent approach is applied to developing delivery programmes in line with the client’s stage gate Process.
• You will initially work with the Programme Assurance Manager and other subject experts to formulate a detailed and timed Programme Delivery Plan incorporating the company’s and the clients’ specific requirements. The plan will be regularly updated and will provide the basis for performance monitoring.
• Contribute to creating a positive team culture and environment to support improved programme behaviours and wellbeing and performance.
• This role will require determination and doggedness as you will part of a team changing for the better the way in which many people currently work embedding production line thinking and our offsite first philosophy.

The right candidate would need demonstrable experience of the responsibilities below.
• Assimilate the project brief, associated documents and specifications and request any additional information to improve programme accuracy.
• Work with design and construct teams to develop production methodologies, work sequences and pre-contract and contract programmes.
• Arrange and facilitate collaborative planning sessions with appropriate stakeholders (including suppliers and Thames Water) throughout project development stages. Assist project teams in producing short and medium-term programmes reflecting collaborative planning outputs.
• Arrange and facilitate programme validation workshops to ensure programme accuracy, logic, clear critical path identification, adequate and appropriately placed time risk allowances, etc.
• Update project progress working directly with project teams and suppliers. This will involve virtual and actual site and pre-assembly works visits to verify progress.
• Produce accurate monthly progress reports for the company and the client.
• Implement our internal “Planning Best Practice Guide” capturing and adding new best practice as it happens.
• When appropriate integrate the programme with digital model so that projects can be built virtually to increase stakeholder understanding and improve safety, logic, efficiency, accuracy, etc.
• Identify and assess programme risks and work with project teams to produce mitigation plans. Identify alternative methodologies/sequences that reduces delivery risks.
• Monitor and capture actual output and productivity performance data and use this to continually improve project team performance programme accuracy/reliability.
• Integrate offsite manufacturing and design approval durations within our delivery programme.
• Working closely with supply chain partners to enhance their digital and production thinking capabilities.
• Share lessons learnt to ensure the framework team are utilising the latest knowledge, techniques and materials.
• Drive continuous improvement of data analysis and reporting across the framework.
• Reports to the Programme Assurance Manager.
• Provides a support to the Production Team.
• Works closely with fully integrated design and construct project teams.
• Supervise graduate/apprentice planners.

The Person:
• Previous planning and/or project delivery theoretical and practical experience in a manufacturing or construction environment is essential.
• You must be proficient using planning software including resource management functions.
• Knowledgeable in the application of technology in engineering practice and digital engineering skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving , management and organisational skills.
• Some degree of knowledge of the Health and Safety Requirements within the industry to assist in the preparation of Construction Programmes.
• Can work independently and as part of a diverse team.
• Knowledge of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), Lean Construction, Agile Programme Management, Production Thinking and other techniques that will assure programme and quality performance in a modern manufacturing environment.
• Excellent communication and engagement skills – ability to bring the whole team on the MMC journey including the client and our supply chain.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a range of people; a good ‘Team Player’.

Desirable:
• Professional qualification in a construction/manufacturing related subject
• Experience using MPP Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 and linking programmes to digital models is desirable, as we will work with the successful candidate to acquire these skills.
• Experience applying Lean techniques and leading collaborative planning meetings
• Membership of a Professional body is encouraged
• CSCS Card
• SMSTS safety qualification


Minimum experience needed:
• Significant demonstratable experience using planning software including resource management functions.
• Demonstratable theoretical and practical experience planning / delivering projects in a manufacturing or construction environment.
• Demonstratable experience with Health and Safety Requirements to assist in the preparation of Construction Programmes.
• Experience of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), Lean Construction, Agile Programme Management, Production Thinking etc.

Qualifications needed:
• Industry applicable ONC/HNC/B.Eng/NVQ or equivalent or extensively significant demonstratable planning experience with a main/leading contractor

If rate of pay is a sliding scale, what is needed to get to the top amount:
• Extensively significant demonstratable experience using planning software including resource management functions.
• Significant demonstratable theoretical and practical experience planning / delivering projects in a manufacturing or construction environment with a main/leading contractor on water infrastructure projects.
• Membership with a relevant professional body
• Professional qualification in a construction/manufacturing related subject
• Experience using MPP Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 and linking programmes to digital models
• Experience applying lean techniques and leading collaborative planning meetings
• Significant demonstratable experience with all points outlined in the job description and minimum experience section

The salary banding is indicative and dependent on experience. Details on the full package are to be discussed during shortlisting.
