Giving back to the community and supporting the future generation: Whitby Maritime Hub
Linear Recruitment has been a key supplier of temporary staffing provision to Willmott Dixon in the North East of England for over 10 years; in that time, we have supported the organisation on some landmark projects.
The Whitby Maritime Hub is a newly constructed facility located in Whitby’s harbor, developed to support the maritime, marine, and offshore renewable energy sectors. This hub will provide training, business space, and industry facilities, building on the town's rich maritime heritage in fishing and boat building while focusing on future-oriented marine industries. The project has an estimated value of £9.6 million, with Willmott Dixon securing the contract through the SCAPE Construction Framework.
Linear Recruitment has not only supported Willmott Dixon with temporary staff across the duration of this project but has also contributed towards Willmott Dixon’s social value targets for the scheme.
Linear Recruitment partnered with Whitby High School and Willmott Dixon to deliver an engaging careers development initiative aimed at Year 12 and Year 13 students. The programme was designed to equip students with practical employability skills whilst introducing them to career opportunities within the construction and built environment sector.
Linear Recruitment delivered a structured CV Writing and Interview Preparation Seminar, providing students with:
- Practical guidance on building professional, employer-ready CVs
- Interview techniques to improve confidence and communication
- Insight into employer expectations and recruitmment processes
In a separate session we also presented the students with a session focused on careers in the construction industry, offering clear pathways and guidance on how to enter this dynamic and growing sector.
In addition to our time spent at Whitby High School, we also spent time volunteering at WHISH (Whitby Hidden Impairments Support and Help), supporting WHISH with the decorating of their new hub area ahead of their opening.
WHISH is a charity that helps reduce social isolation and offer exciting activities and educational and social opportunities for children and parents. WHISH aims to build confidence and improve mental wellbeing through sharing experiences and gaining beneficial life skills.
Our undertakings at Whitby High School and WHISH Foundation generated over £1,500
