| Our TeamElliot Birtwistle Division Manager Elliot Birtwistle has been with Linear Recruitment for more than four years and whilst his duties may now include lots of spreadsheets and training, he still finds plenty of time to recruit across the North West and Yorkshire. Ishitha Kashim, Senior Consultant Architecture and Interior Design, London Ishi Kashim joined Linear Recruitment in October 2023 focusing on the London Market. Ishi comes from an Interior Design background’ and has recently takes time out to grow her family’ Darren Marsden, Recruitment Consultant Architecture and Technical, North West Darren has worked in recruitment for almost four years, and has been with Linear for just over a year. For most of his time with Linear Darren focused on permanent white collar roles within housing and general construction, but this year will focus on Architectural and Technical roles across the North West. Matt Cassady, Consultant Architecture, Interior Design, Design Management , North East & Yorkshire Matt Cassady has recently joined the Architecture team. Now in his third year at Linear Recruitment, Matt’s first two years covered main contracting and civils before moving to Architecture late last year. His main area of focus will be the North East region but he will be supporting Elliot to cover the Yorkshire region too. Matt’s passion for architecture comes from not only being married to an Architect but also from spending many of the years she was completing her degree in the architecture studio. This included helping set up numerous end-of-year shows and building pavilions. Their interest in the built environment spills over into family life, with many weekend trips being based on going to see interesting buildings. You can also find flooring samples used as coffee coasters. Matt's second passion is golf, and whilst his skill level is average at best, this won't stop him from asking indiscriminately "do you play golf" and stating "if you ever fancy a round let me know". Matt will be putting together teams to play in various charity Golf days throughout the year so get in touch if you're interested. |

| Quarter Update | We've seen a strong start to 2026 The first quarter of 2026 has seen a strong start for Architecture in the North East with growth in Healthcare, Education, high-rise multi-room projects, housebuilding, and firestopping. What is the outlook for the rest of the year ahead for the UK? We're expecting major government funding packages to help boost apprenticeships and skills shortages, along with increased investment in affordable housing, AI, and the long term 10 year infrastructure strategy. We're expecting an increase of around 2.3% in output this year. Read more |

Top Tips for creating a stand out Portfolio | Our Consultant Ishitha Kashim, an experienced Interior Architectural Designer recruiting for Architecture and Interior Design professionals across the South of the UK, offers some advice on how to make your portfolio stand out and set you apart.
📌Keep it concise – Limit your portfolio to 10-12 pages. Focus on showcasing your best work.
📌Tailor it to the industry – Ensure your portfolio aligns with the sector you're aiming for. For example, if you're targeting the residential sector focus on that instead of filling your portfolio with commercial or hospitality work.
📌Show your process – Hiring managers often ask to see concepts from start to finish. Showcase your thought process with bubble diagrams, spatial plans, drawings, mood boards, etc.
📌Keep the design clean – Avoid bright backgrounds and fancy fonts. A simple layout lets your work take center stage. |
|
 | 📌Tell the story behind your designs – Hiring managers love seeing the narrative that inspired your work.
📌Quality over quantity – Always prioritise the quality of your work over the number of projects.
📌For juniors (2 years of industry experience) – It's time to move beyond your university work. Include real industry samples and don’t be afraid to showcase them!
📌For midweights and seniors – Avoid overloading your portfolio with polished final images. Clients want to see the original ideas and development process, especially if you're aiming to lead projects.
