Top Tips for creating a standout Portfolio
Back to All NewsOur Consultant Ishitha Kashim, an experienced Interior Architectural Designer recruiting for Architecture and Interior Design professionals across the South of the UK, offers some advice on how to make your portfolio stand out and set you apart.
📌Keep it concise – Limit your portfolio to 10-12 pages. Focus on showcasing your best work.
📌Tailor it to the industry – Ensure your portfolio aligns with the sector you're aiming for. For example, if you're targeting the residential sector focus on that instead of filling your portfolio with commercial or hospitality work.
📌Show your process – Hiring managers often ask to see concepts from start to finish. Showcase your thought process with bubble diagrams, spatial plans, drawings, mood boards, etc.
📌Keep the design clean – Avoid bright backgrounds and fancy fonts. A simple layout lets your work take center stage.
📌Tell the story behind your designs – Hiring managers love seeing the narrative that inspired your work.
📌Quality over quantity – Always prioritise the quality of your work over the number of projects.
📌For juniors (2 years of industry experience) – It's time to move beyond your university work. Include real industry samples and don’t be afraid to showcase them!
📌For midweights and seniors – Avoid overloading your portfolio with polished final images. Clients want to see the original ideas and development process, especially if you're aiming to lead projects.
